Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - Audition Pieces
“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” is a musical with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The story is based on the biblical tale of Joseph from the Book of Genesis. Joseph, the favourite son of Jacob, is given a multi-coloured coat by his father, which sparks jealousy among his eleven brothers. They sell him into slavery, and Joseph faces various challenges, including imprisonment in Egypt. Through his ability to interpret dreams, Joseph rises to prominence in Pharaoh’s court.
“Sha la la, Joseph, you’re doing fine! You and your dreamcoat, ahead of your time!”
Told entirely through song with the help of a main character Narrator, the musical follows preferred son Joseph.
The musical is known for its diverse musical styles, ranging from country and rock to calypso and French ballad, and its lively and entertaining presentation of the biblical narrative.
